Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty should suit your face, be assessed by a surgeon who specialises in nose surgery, and be tested with simulation software. The most important factor in rhinoplasty is pre-operative planning that meets these criteria; this is how patient satisfaction and surgical success increase.
When the operation is planned with a facial analysis that assesses skin quality and thickness, cartilage strength and airway patency to avoid breathing problems afterwards, in other words done by the book, a smooth recovery and a beautiful nose can be expected.

For Natural, Healthy Rhinoplasty
Prof. Dr. Süleyman TAŞ
Prof. Dr. Süleyman TAŞ starts from the patient's realistic expectations and, drawing on his experience and assessing the nose from the front, side, above, below and oblique angles, aims for a natural nose that suits the person's face.
For a natural rhinoplasty result, attention to the golden ratio in the new shape of the nose is important. The nose should be in harmony within itself and in proportion with the shape of the face. Simulation is used for this purpose. Photographs taken in a professional studio are analysed and simulated with dedicated software, which helps answer questions such as 'Will my nose look natural after rhinoplasty?'. Simulated images let you see how the planned change might look, bringing you closer to the result you want.
The simulations show what kind of operation could bring you closer to your ideal nose, and you choose the necessary interventions together with your surgeon. This eases one of the biggest worries about rhinoplasty, the uncertainty about how you will look afterwards, because you will have seen the expected result of each step before surgery.
The Rhinoplasty Process
Choosing a Surgeon

Choosing the surgeon is one of the key factors in a successful rhinoplasty. There are many things to consider when choosing an aesthetic surgeon, including:
-
The surgeon's experience in the field and the expertise that comes with it.
-
The surgeon's skill in this area.
-
Whether the surgeon gives you confidence.
It is important not to rush this choice. A surgeon's many years in practice matter, but they are never enough on their own. You should be sure that the surgeon fully understands the anatomy of the nose and has the skill to work on it. Seeing photographs of previous patients can help reassure you, and you should be able to trust your surgeon.
Consultation and Analysis
To plan the right result for each patient, a thorough examination is carried out before rhinoplasty, and patients should be open with their surgeon during it. The technique that suits you is determined and any deformities are identified at this stage. If you have any allergies or a condition you think might prevent surgery, be sure to tell your surgeon, and share information about any medications you take regularly. The thickness of the nasal skin is assessed. It is important that the body is ready for surgery, so certain tests are carried out. At this stage the shape of your nose is decided and the likely result is discussed with you. Simulation is used to show how your nose may look after rhinoplasty.

Types of Rhinoplasty
Functional Rhinoplasty
Functional rhinoplasty corrects physical problems in the nose. It is used when a fracture or deviation in the nose causes breathing problems.
Deviation, a bend in the septum that separates the two nostrils, can greatly affect breathing.
Septal Deviation

Polyps inside the nose block airflow through the nasal passages and affect breathing.
Nasal Polyps

Health problems are also an important reason for nose surgery. Nasal septal perforation is a significant health problem.
Septal Perforation

After unsuccessful rhinoplasty, inappropriate interventions can cause problems with breathing and the sense of smell.
Functional Problems After Unsuccessful Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Cosmetic rhinoplasty corrects irregularities in the shape of the nose. When a patient is bothered by the shape of their nose, cosmetic rhinoplasty offers a solution.

Drooping Nasal Tip
A drooping nasal tip, caused for example by weak cartilage, can be corrected with small interventions to the tip alone.

Nasal Hump
A nasal hump, which appears during growth or after trauma and can affect a person psychologically, can be corrected under general or local anaesthesia depending on the extent of surgery. Usually the hump is rasped down and the nasal bridge and tip are reshaped.

Large and Long Nose
The necessary interventions are carried out to achieve a nose that suits the shape of the face and functions well.

Crooked Nose
A crooked nose is caused by a bend in the cartilage wall that separates the nostrils. While the appearance of the nose is improved, breathing problems are also corrected using closed, atraumatic techniques.

Nasal Collapse
A gap between the nasal tip and the nasal root, caused by various factors, makes the nose look flat. This collapse is corrected using tissue taken from the patient.

Overly Wide Nostrils and Alae
Wide nostrils can be corrected by removing tissue from the base of the nostrils and shaping the nose as desired.

Nasal Asymmetry
Human faces are naturally not perfectly symmetrical, but in some patients a visible nasal asymmetry can be corrected with cartilage grafts and targeted interventions.

Revision Rhinoplasty
For various reasons, such as choosing the wrong surgeon, inappropriate interventions or trauma to the nose, some people are not happy with their nose surgery. For them, a second operation, revision rhinoplasty, is one of the most important options.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Anaesthesia: Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Because being awake during the operation can cause problems, general anaesthesia is the safer option and is comfortable for both the patient and the surgeon.
Packing: Nasal packing is no longer used in rhinoplasty. Silicone splints are used to support the corrected cartilage instead. Gauze packing was painful because it stuck to the inside of the nose; splints do not have this problem.
Closed Rhinoplasty: In the closed technique the skin between the nostrils is not cut and the soft tissues of the nose are not opened from outside, so no scar remains on the skin. Because no external incision is made, it is also called scarless rhinoplasty.
Duration: Depending on the surgeon and the operation, it can take 2 to 4 hours.

Choosing the Right Rhinoplasty Surgeon
The result of rhinoplasty is directly related to choosing the right surgeon. This choice matters a great deal, because the success of the operation depends on the experience and skill of the surgeon you choose. Once you have decided on surgery, you should research surgeons in detail. Points to consider:
-
Review the surgeon's training and background.
-
Choose a surgeon who specialises in rhinoplasty.
-
Look at the operations the surgeon has performed.
If you still cannot decide after this research, keep researching and consider:
-
membership of professional societies and published scientific work in the field,
-
awards and certificates demonstrating surgical expertise,
-
an understanding of art and refined manual skill, another important factor in aesthetic surgery,
-
media coverage following successful operations, which can also reflect a surgeon's expertise and experience in the field.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can be performed on people with nasal problems whose bone and cartilage development is complete and who are at least 18 years old, who have no physical or mental health problems, and who have realistic expectations of the operation. No condition that would prevent surgery should be found at the consultation.
What matters in rhinoplasty is not an age limit but the development of the bone and cartilage structure. The operation can be performed once skeletal development is complete and the examination findings raise no concerns. Rhinoplasty is generally performed at the age of 18 and over.

Rhinoplasty: Frequently Asked Questions
How long does rhinoplasty surgery take?
Depending on the structure of the nose and the planned procedure, the operation usually takes 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anaesthesia.
What is the difference between closed and open rhinoplasty?
In the closed technique all incisions are made inside the nose and no external scar remains; in the open technique a small incision is added to the skin between the nostrils. The suitable technique is decided at the consultation.
When does swelling go down after rhinoplasty?
Noticeable swelling and bruising usually subside within the first 2 weeks; the nose may take 6 months to 1 year to reach its final shape, especially at the tip.
When can I return to work after rhinoplasty?
Most patients can return to desk work about 7 to 10 days after surgery, once the splint is removed.
What is revision rhinoplasty?
It is a secondary operation to correct shape or breathing problems in people who have had nose surgery before; waiting at least 12 months after the previous operation is recommended.
